WhatsApp has blocked more than 2 million Indian accounts
WhatsApp has blocked more than 2 million Indian accounts in a month. WhatsApp has said that this step is against the misuse of net media.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp authorities have published the first 'guideline report' in accordance with the guidelines of the country's new information technology law. It said that between May 15 and June 15, 2021, 20 lakh accounts were banned after spontaneously identifying and abusing the media.
In more than 95% of these cases, action has been taken against those who send harmful and obscene messages in large numbers. There are also cases of hacking and forgery.
WhatsApp authorities also said that a total of 204 complaints have been received for taking action under the new IT Act during that period. Out of which 63 cases have been proved and action has been taken. Incidentally, between May 15 and June 15, Facebook authorities took action after receiving complaints from 646 such cases among Indian users.
In January 2021, the WhatsApp company introduced a new privacy policy. From then on, there was a lot of criticism about it. WhatsApp has faced many questions as to why it is bringing this policy. However, the government has also opposed WhatsApp in this regard.
The government further alleges that WhatsApp is using its digital capabilities to force consumers to accept the policy. Again, WhatsApp is also sending push notifications to customers about this. The government has asked the court to direct WhatsApp authorities to refrain from such acts.
