End-to-end encryption will also be used in WhatsApp chat backups
End-to-end encryption will also be used in WhatsApp chat backups. More secure is chatting through WhatsApp. Android users save backup chats to Google Drive, Apple operating system users save backup chats to iCloud. From now on, the backed up chat will also be protected through end-to-end encryption.
End-to-end encryption prevents a third party from reading another person's chat. Regular backup chats will be encrypted. So far, only WhatsApp chats will be secured with end-to-end encryption.
From now on, chat backup will be encrypted with a unique randomly generated 'key' or key. If necessary, WhatsApp users can manually enter the 'key' or password protect the chat. You can set the chat backup key or password by going to the app settings.
If you try to secure WhatsApp chat with password, that 'key' will also be stored in the backup. This 'key' will be stored in the hardware security module component. The backup key can be restored with that password when accessing the backup.
However, backups cannot be accessed in the hardware security module just by entering the wrong password a few times. If someone wants to retrieve their own backup, they have to give their own backup password. Who will verify the backup key after this encrypted password. Once this verification is complete, the backup can be decrypted.
